Frequently Asked Questions

What does this bond do?
This bond funds essential projects to ease overcrowding, replace aging facilities, and make critical safety upgrades.

Why now?
Passing the bond in February ensures urgent improvements can begin immediately. It also keeps tax rates stable while avoiding the higher costs of delaying these projects.

How will this affect me?
The repayment plan has been adjusted to reduce the tax rate for property owners. Acting now ensures our schools remain a safe and effective part of the community without increasing the financial burden.

What happens if the bond doesn’t pass?
Without this bond, overcrowding in classrooms will worsen, safety upgrades will be delayed, and aging buildings will continue to deteriorate.

How does this bond differ from the one in November?
This bond maintains the same funding amount as the November measure but includes an adjusted repayment plan that reduces the tax rate for property owners. We fell just shy of the 60 percent approval needed for the bond to pass in November.

Why does the school district need a bond to fund these projects?
The state does not fund the construction, replacement, or repair of school buildings. Local school districts rely on voter-approved bonds to provide safe, functional spaces for students.

Who benefits from this bond?
Every student in the Lake Stevens School District will benefit. The bond funds projects across the district, including classroom space, safety upgrades, and essential facilities improvements.

How does this bond impact our tax rate?
This bond replaces expiring debt, which helps keep the tax rate stable. The adjusted repayment plan lowers the tax rate to $1.48 per $100,000 of assessed property value.

What is included in the bond projects?

The bond will fund:

  • New classrooms and schools to ease overcrowding.

  • Replacement of aging facilities that no longer meet safety and learning standards.

  • Districtwide safety upgrades, including secure entrances and updated systems.

How can I help ensure the bond is approved?
You can help by spreading the word to your neighbors, endorsing the bond, donating to the campaign, and most importantly, voting to approve Proposition 1 by February 11.
